Water is essential for all forms of life and plays an important role in various aspects of human existence. Water management is essential for addressing water-related challenges, promoting sustainable development, protecting the environment, and ensuring the well-being of communities worldwide. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a revolutionary technology in the realm of water treatment, offering creative solutions to streamline processes, improve efficacy, and enhance the quality of water. This paper reviews the various ways AI is being used in water management, such as water quality monitoring, distribution network leak detection and water treatment process optimization, and flood forecasting. It overcomes AI-related technical, infrastructural, and skill challenges in the water sector. The methods used include Deep learning-DL (Convolutional neural network (CNN), Machine learning (ML), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Natural language processing (NLP), Optimization Algorithms, Remote sensing, Geospatial Analysis (GIS), and Expert systems. While AI offers promising solutions for various challenges in water management, it also faces several limitations. Even though ongoing research, innovation, and collaboration can help to get past the barriers and harness the potential of AI to improve water management techniques.
