Using Linear Regression Model to Prove the Relationship between Plagiarism Improvement and Novelty of Academic Research Work towards Academic Integrity
The novelty and the improved plagiarism of research work are significant for academic integrity. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between improved plagiarism levels and the novelty of academic research work using a linear regression model. The study tested the research work of 202 postgraduate students from Enugu State University of Science and Technology-ESUT in 2020-2023 academic session using Plagiarism-Checker-X software and results were tabulated in Microsoft Excel for regression analysis. The study followed seven basic steps, revealing an R² value of 1 which indicates a perfect linear relationship of variables suggesting overfitting or possible data errors using linear regression. The P-value and F-value of 0.000 from ANOVA indicated that the model was statistically non-significant and did not fit the data analysis. The study recommended reevaluating the model with new data or using another model, employing Turnitin software for comparison, and maintaining strict plagiarism standards to uphold academic integrity.
