Any precursor used to make carbon fibres is subjected to very high temperatures to remove all the elements except carbon. The type of precursor to be used, the orientation of polymer chains within the structure and the tensile strength are of highest priority. The selection of co-monomers, the ideal path to produce PAN polymer and the parameters affecting Acrylic fibre properties have been reviewed in this paper.
